History of OMS in Taiwan

The Establishment of Several Key Churches

In 1926 Rev. E.A. Kilbourne, co-founder of OMS, came to Taiwan engaging in a brief island-wide preaching ministry. As a result he felt OMS should begin work there. Many factors, however, prohibited the early realization of this desire. Nevertheless, in the 1930’s the Japan Holiness Church initiated a missionary effort in Taiwan, which resulted in the establishment of several key churches – which withstood the wartime persecutions and remain to this day.

Following the collapse of the nationalist government on the mainland in 1949, OMS and other missionary organizations opened work in two areas of China that are still open, namely Hong Kong and Taiwan.

A Bible Training Program

Since 1951, OMS has carried on a Bible training program among the Christian nationals in Taiwan, resulting in the establishment of a strong and increasingly independent national church.

English Ministries

In 1969 OMS began an evangelistic ministry through teaching English, both in an evening school and on the radio. The radio ministry continued until 1989. English evangelistic events were held weekly and two camps each year minister to both Christians and non-Christians alike. In 1998 the English ministry work was moved from the Chung Tai Center into local Taiwan Holiness Churches where it continues to be active today.
