History of OMS in Russia

CoMission

After seeing the JESUS film at the 1991 Moscow Film Festival, top Russian educators concluded that a great need existed to instill Christian moral values in their society. An invitation was extended to the JESUS Film Project, who partnered with more than 80 Christian organizations, including OMS International, to form the CoMission. Its purpose was to introduce and train Russian teachers to use a curriculum of Christian morals and ethics. OMS, a founding member of the CoMission, sent teams to 10 cities in northern and western Russia.

OMS starts churches in Russia

Through CoMission, God laid a tremendous foundation for OMS to begin church planting in Russia. Starting from Bible studies with Russian teachers, OMS planted churches in seven of the original 10 CoMission cities and partnered with Russian believers in many other cities to assist them in establishing churches. With the help of OMS, the pastors from these churches formed a church association called Blagovest, meaning “Good News.”

The Korean Evangelical Holiness Church

The OMS-related church of Korea, the Korean Evangelical Holiness Church, also inaugurated outreach into Russia and through a partnership agreement established between KEHC and OMS, the Russia field became the first field where the traditional three-fold ministry outreach of OMS (evangelism, discipleship and church planting) was put into action in partnership by both agencies. As a result of this partnership, the Moscow Evangelical Christian Seminary was established.
