Mozambique Prayer Requests

July 2-8

MOZAMBIQUE—Much prayer is needed about the discipline committee’s document as it is missing many important aspects of the church and its vision. Pray for an upcoming meeting and for the results as they seek to move the church forward.

Christian Academy in Mozambique needs prayer for many projects that are going on during the school break. One of the security upgrades was denied by the government, so a new design must be made and submitted. Pray this goes well. They are having difficulty finding qualified teachers for this school year, so ask the Lord to provide all the teachers as well as sufficient students to cover the expenses of the next school year.

June 18-24th, 2008

MOZAMBIQUE—The security upgrades begin this at Christian Academy in Mozambique (CAM). Pray for all the permits for these upgrades to be given so work can begin on time and end before August 1 when classes begin. Becca Pullin is helping at CAM, preparing for the next school year; she is also translating student testimonies. Ask God to give her clear direction for her future. Praise the Lord that one new teacher has been found for the next school year, but more teachers and a school director are still needed.

Pray for the new seminary director, Mike Thiessen, as he and his wife Sarah are now in language class and getting to know the people and culture here. Their boys, Simon, 4, and Gabriel, 2, are adjusting to a much different life than they had in Canada.

Samuel Palisse Mussaco, Christian micro-economic development coordinator, is receiving further training in Nampula. This is a great opportunity for Samuel to gain good information and to talk directly with other organizations that are doing micro-finance in Mozambique

Meetings continue with the national church leaders about the discipline and its revisions. Remember this process in prayer, and pray that the revisions will be accepted and understood by the church and its leaders.

June 11-17, 2008

MOZAMBIQUE—Many are traveling now that the school year is complete for Christian Academy in Mozambique (CAM). Pray for Claude and Marilynn Meyers and Beverly Estes, traveling to the U.S. The next school year begins on August 1. There is still a great need for teachers and a director for CAM. This week they will start the recommended security steps that will take most of the school break time. Pray that the permits and the work will go well and will be completed soon.

Continue to remember Dave and Ann Dedrick and Aimee Howarth, raising support to return to Mozambique. Both are badly needed there.

On June 12, the OMS team will meet with their Mozambique Advisory Board. Pray for a renewed vision for Mozambique to be realized.

May 28-June 3, 2008

MOZAMBIQUE—New missionaries, Mike and Sarah Thiessen, arrived May 23 with their children Simon and Gabriel. Pray for them to settle in and arrange Portuguese language classes. There will be many adjustments as they get to know the missionary team make new friends. Pray for their future ministries and especially for the Lord’s wisdom for Mike as the new seminary director.

ECC director, Juca Fernando, reports that his training and teaching in Zambezia province is going well. He will continue encouraging the church in Zambezia and Nampula provinces and doing survey work in Cabo Delgado province. Ask the Lord to bring people that will open doors for new ministries in the future. Pray for his wife and daughter who remain at home near Maputo.

Christian Academy in Mozambique (CAM) has been approved by the U.S. Embassy to do some important security upgrades that the embassy will reimburse. Pray that these physical improvements will be finished before August 5 when classes begin for the next school year.

Continue to pray for a director for CAM and for teachers needed for the next school year. The OMS ministries continue to grow, so more career and short-term missionaries are greatly needed. The missionaries currently on the field are stretched, covering all the ministries.

May 21-27, 2008

These are busy days at Christian Academy in Mozambique (CAM). Pray for a good completion by all the students, especially the two seniors, Natasha and Neel. The CAM graduation ceremony is on June 4 at the Maputo Biblical and Theological Seminary. The property was purchased from Neel’s family, so this is a very special day for Neel and CAM.

The national church discipline committee submitted their first draft of the church discipline a few weeks ago. The national council met with Dave and Ann Dedrick and Larry and Susan Weil to discuss revisions and rewording. This will set the foundation for the future of the national church and its vision.

ECC coordinator Juca Fernando is traveling in Zambezia, Nampula and Cabo Delgado. Pray for safety as well as many new contacts needed to further the ECC ministries in the north. Juca will provide training and bring much needed training materials and Bibles. Pray for his wife Elina and their baby daughter while he is away.

A few weeks ago, the Jesus Film was shown in a new area called Picoco. The response was positive, and ECC is deciding how best to develop the church in this area. Pray for Sr. Nelhio, considering his what his role in the church ministry will be.

May 7-13, 2008

Praise to God for the abundant harvest at Picoco in the Boane area of Maputo Province. The ECC team, in partnership with Youth for Christ, has planted a church in this area where there is competition with the local mosque for the hearts of the residents. More than 100 people gathered recently to worship in the new church and view the Jesus Film, with most accepting Christ. The next morning, 65 returned for church. Remember this new church, Igreja Evangelica Palavra Viva, Pococo, and pray that they will grow in their faith. A young man, Nelho, from the Khongolote Church will pastor this church.

During May and June, prayer is especially needed for the revisions of the first writing of the church disciplines. Continue to ask God to form the church into a Mozambican denomination that glorifies and honors the Lord.
