Japan Prayer Requests

Nov. 19-25, 2008

JAPAN—Pray for the healing of relationships between men and women in Japan. They have the highest rate of marital dissatisfaction in the world.

Ask God to change the hearts of the leadership of companies in Japan whose expectations make it almost impossible for families to have any kind of family life with the husband/father.

Pray for the strongholds to be broken that keep the Japanese people blinded to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Pray that the Holy Spirit would put it on the hearts of business people to carry Christmas products that contain the nativity and the Christian meaning of Christmas.

Pray as the team begins preparations for the Festival of Lights. It is a great outreach to the community.

November 5th- 11th, 2008

JAPAN—Mark Grimmer’s term has finished, and he is now in New Zealand. Praise the Lord for how He used Mark this year. Mark was able to see several people saved and had a valuable ministry at Chigasaki and J-Lodge.

Pray for one of the Christians in one of Daisy’s classes. She has closed her heart against the pastor and his wife of the church she used to attend for some unknown reason. Pray for God to soften her heart and bring about reconciliation.

Pray for the preparations for the work team of five that is coming.

Pray for the meeting with the Ministry of Culture and Education on November 12. Lillian Shinota, Eri Matsuoka and Steve Duhrkoop will be attending.

Oct. 22-28, 2008

JAPAN—Praise the Lord for the ECC house church seminar (church multiplication) led by Folmer Strunk at Sakado. People showed an interest in starting home fellowship or small groups in their homes as a way to reach out to unbelievers and share the Gospel. Praise God!

Praise the Lord for Rev. Kawano’s effective chemo treatment for his leukemia (AML). The good news is that he is doing better. He has more chemo treatments to go, so continue to pray for him.

Pray for Lillian Shinoda, speaking in worship at a Youth Jam follow-up in Hiroshima on October 26. Ask that the follow-ups will be opportunities for young people to respond to God’s call for service in the ministry and to a deeper faith commitment.

Continue to pray for the students in the English evangelism classes; ask that the seeds being planted in their hearts will take root and bring them to salvation. Pray for the Christians who attend these classes to relate to the non-Christians in a loving way.

Praise the Lord for a good senior field trip to Nagasaki from October 7-9. Students seemed engaged in what they were seeing. At Urakami Church, God spoke to several of the students in the quiet of the moment when the senior chamber singers sang and then everyone was quiet and focused on worshiping the Lord.

Oct. 15-21, 2008

JAPAN—Praise that two of the boys in Dixie King’s Tokorozawa English class are attending Sunday school. Pray that the parents will also attend soon.

Pray for Steve Duhrkoop, the other Christian Academy of Japan (CAJ) staff members and the CAJ seniors going to Nagasaki. Pray for each of the seniors to relate what they see to their own faith.

Pray for the church multiplication seminar at Sakado and for meetings with with Bill Oden and the new ECC coordinator, Bob Warren.

Oct. 8-14th, 2008

JAPAN—Praise God that the English evangelism classes are going well. Pray for the Holy Spirit to be at work in the hearts of the students. We claim the promise that “His Word will not return void.”

Praise the Lord for a good After Jam (youth) Rally where about 40-50 young people gathered for a BBQ, fellowship and worship. We have a wide representation of youth, so finding a way to reach each one where they are is our challenge. Ask the Spirit to show us how to better prepare these young people to live as Christians in a non-Christian world.

Pray for the ECC house church seminar given by Folmer Strunk at Sakado from October 11-13.

October 1-7, 2008

JAPAN—Praise the Lord that the husband of one of Mark Grimmer’s English students was baptized.

Pray for Steve and Dixie King’s English Classes at Nakayama that have begun. Ask that each student will develop a hunger for God and His Word.

Sept 24-30, 2008

JAPAN— The field was blessed by David and Lori Long’s visit. Through them, the Lord encouraged and ministered to the missionaries, the Japan Holiness Church (JHC), Tokyo Biblical Seminary (TBS) and reconfirmed the long-standing, rich relationship and partnership OMS has shared with the JHC and TBS for more than a century. All of the meetings went well. David‘s chapel message and other sharing by both of them were a blessing to them all. Praise the Lord.
