Joel and Sharmayne have served as ECC Shepherds to Myanmar since 2004 and Hong Kong since 2005. It has been a joy to come alongside local denominations, training and encouraging them in planting and multiplying churches. In Myanmar alone, we have witnessed God working as over 60 churches have been planted.
Joel has recently been called to serve OMS-USA as director. He arrives at OMS Headquarters with extensive experience in leading organizations in many areas. Recent experiences include: Commissioner of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles for the State of Indiana, CEO of Galyan’s Sporting Goods, and Chief Operating Officer of Lerner/New York (New York and Company) a nationwide women’s apparel firm.
Joel and Sharmayne are both Discussion Leaders for Bible Study Fellowship. They are both volunteers at CareNet Pregnancy Centers: Sharmayne as counselor to clients, and both as Post Abortion Counselors helping to heal those with issues relating to being involved with an abortion in the past. They have served in their church in many capacities including Elder, Christian Education Director, Sunday School Teachers, Finance, etc.
Joel served on the board of Timothy Christian School in Piscataway New Jersey for eight years.
Joel has always had a heart for missions, particularly to Jewish people, having been raised Jewish. He has been involved with Chosen People Ministries,
Ariel Ministries and other outreach ministries focused on reaching Jews with the Gospel.
Joel received a B.A. degree in Public Administration and a M. B. A. degree in Finance and Accounting from the University of Pittsburgh. Sharmayne has a B.A. in Psychology from Point Park College in Pittsburgh. She attended college on a Ballet Scholarship.
Sharmayne and Joel have three daughters, Melanie, Tamarah and Jenna, along with four grandchildren, Haylee, Aadyn, Zion and Ava. Melanie’s husband John Van Wicklin is Regional Director for White’s Placement Services, a Christian firm specializing in placing foster children in desirable homes. Jenna’s husband Chris Wilson is a Christian music artist with Connersvine, a group that has produced 2 singles and one album with Sony Records. Jenna is a Human Resource Analyst with American Funds. They all reside in the Indianapolis area.
