Taylor and Mari Hubbard

Teachers

Taylor and Mari Hubbard, along with their children Paul, 13, and Sarah, 11, have served with OMS International in Hong Kong since 1996 in school ministries. OMS is a founding organization of two Christian schools in Hong Kong—United Christian College (since 1974), a secondary school, and International Christian School (since 1992), a K-12 American-style school.

During their first term, Taylor taught English and Bible, supervised chapels and fellowship groups and coached basketball for English-speaking students at United Christian College (UCC). Mari served on the school board for International Christian School (ICS), and as Paul and Sarah reached school age, she became increasingly involved at ICS as a parent and a substitute teacher.

Since the 2000-01 school year, Taylor has been teaching science at International Christian School. Currently, he teaches high school biological sciences and coaches boys volleyball and basketball. He also serves on the board at United Christian College and on the OMS Hong Kong field committee. Mari continues at ICS as a substitute, a volunteer special needs tutor and a do-it-all mom of two adolescents. Paul is a seventh grader who enjoys Legos, video games, Friday evening church youth group meetings and being taller than his mother. Sarah is fifth grader and enjoys reading, writing poetry, watching movies and chatting online with her school friends.

Taylor and Mari have had an interest in Asia since 1990 when they spent 1990-1991 in East Asia teaching English. During a school break that year, they became acquainted with OMS work in Hong Kong and began to pray about returning as a part of the OMS team. They are both graduates of the University of Iowa. From 1987-1996, with the exception of the one year in East Asia, they were public school teachers in the state of Iowa.
