Sarah Leckie
Media Specialist/Recruiter
Sarah Leckie joined OMS in 2004. She currently works in the Communication Department, helping OMS document the Lord’s work around the world and communicate it to churches and individuals in OMS’ sending countries. She also travels to various colleges, helping to motivate young men and woman to serve the Lord overseas.
Sarah was raised in the foothills of eastern Kentucky, the daughter of a coal miner and schoolteacher. Having grown up in a non-Christian family, she met the Lord at the age of 14 in a Christian summer camp, where she knew the Lord wanted to use her for His purposes. Leaving the mission field of the Appalachian Mountains, she spent four years at Asbury College where she was introduced to OMS through Stanley Tam’s grandson. She joined the Asbury campus OMS cabinet at the OMS house and was mentored by Mama Lucy and Papa Chuck Long as they prayed together every week for three years.
Sarah graduated from Asbury College with a bachelor’s degree in media communication and nearly a minor in biblical languages (lacking only a second year of Hebrew). After graduation, she spent a month in Peru and Ecuador, photographing medical mission trips and exploring the vast Amazon jungle. Then, she spent four months in the Middle East, teaching Muslims how to build websites and working with the underground church. Upon returning to the U.S., she joined OMS to work with the Communications and Recruitment Departments.
Her passion and heart’s desire is to disciple people to help them grow deeper in their faith. Her work in media and recruitment is the avenue the Lord has provided to serve Him. Weekly, she studies the Word to lead a Bible study with students at Indiana Wesleyan University. More and more each day, she feels her heart pulling her to live in and disciple people from a foreign country. Until the day the Lord releases her from her headquarters assignment, she abides in the moment, trusting the Lord to use her wherever she is and enjoying each adventure He leads her on around the world.
