Church Planting/Leadership Training/Counseling
Stephen and Beth Dupree have served as missionaries with OMS International since 1990. Their multifaceted ministry has included evangelism, teaching, music, discipleship and counseling.
Fluent in Japanese, Stephen preaches regularly in area churches and participates in various camps. He also assists in a pioneer church by teaching English evangelism classes, preaching and teaching. Stephen has served as field treasurer for two years, acting field director for one year and director of the KEY English camp each summer for three years. Beth also assists the pioneer church by teaching Sunday school.
Stephen and Beth’s desire to see young people trained holistically led them to further training. Beth is now the guidance counselor at Christian Academy in Japan. Stephen teaches mission courses in Japanese at Tokyo Biblical Seminary, the Asian Graduate School of Theology and serves as a senior staff member of the Tokyo Mission Research Institute. He is also on the on the board of the newly formed (2005) Japan Missiological Society.
The son of OMS missionaries, Stephen grew up in Japan. He was educated through high school at the Christian Academy in Japan, a school for children of missionaries and other English-speaking expatriates, where their children now attend. He and Beth graduated from Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky, and both received master’s degrees in education from Indiana University. Stephen graduated with an M.A. in World Mission and Evangelism from Asbury Theological Seminary. During their last furlough, Beth completed an M.A. in Counseling at Asbury Theological Seminary while Stephen earned his Ph.D. in Intercultural Studies. The completion of these degrees has opened up a variety of opportunities for ministry in Japan.
The Duprees have three children: Corey, 18, Ethan, 16, and Katie, 13.
