Micah and Marla Routon

Micah and Marla RoutonChurch Planters

Let God be praised for what He has done in the country of Brazil. More than 50 years ago, OMS missionaries arrived in the city of Londrina, Brazil, to share the Gospel message, to gather new believers together in churches and to train emerging Brazilian church leaders. In these past 50 years, God has greatly blessed the sweat and labor of so many missionaries that dedicated their lives to His cause. Today, the Brazilian churches that were started by OMS are strong with a solid core of trained leaders that are now casting their own vision and striving for even greater goals. Their mission statement, “Brasil ao encontro com Deus,” reflects their deep desire to expand beyond the cities and states that already have a strong Gospel presence to give every person in Brazil an opportunity to have an encounter with God.

Since first arriving in Brazil in 2003, Micah and Marla have served in some of the most strategic ministries. They have worked as a part of an eXtreme Walk team, and they have worked as shepherds for the leadership in a Brazilian church. Now, Micah and Marla feel led to partner with the Brazilian church to open new frontiers by starting a new church in an area that has less of a Gospel presence. They hope to return to Brazil in mid-2009 to partner with a commissioned Brazilian couple and plant a new church in the city of Criçiuma, which is located in the state of Santa Catarina. This is a new work and the only one of its kind in the entire state.

Micah and Marla both grew up in strong Christian families and decided at an early age to follow Christ wherever He led. The path that brought Micah to OMS led through George Fox University, where he graduated in May 2000 with a degree in youth ministries and a minor in art. Immediately after graduation Micah began working with OMS and worked for four years as the personal assistant to the international director of Every Community for Christ, OMS’ evangelism and church-planting ministry. His areas of interests and passions are working with young people, discipling, sports ministry, video and photography.

Marla grew up in Alaska and also followed God’s leading to Oregon to attend George Fox University. She graduated in May 2000 with a teaching degree and spent a year teaching and coaching at a high school before reconnecting and falling in love with Micah. From a young age, Marla has enjoyed working with and taking care of children, and much of her ministry passion is child and youth related.
