Extended Missionary Service
Missionaries with OMS International since 1958, Ed and Rachel Erny have served in Taiwan, Hong Kong, the Philippines and the United States. They presently live in Greenwood, Indiana, and minister both in the U.S. and overseas.
During their 22 years in Taiwan, Ed and Rachel taught in the seminary, helped plant churches and pioneered the English evangelism outreach. During this time, they directed a daily nationwide radio ministry with weekly follow-up services in five cities. In the Philippines, they served for six years on the faculty of Faith Bible College in Manila.
When the Ernys returned to the U.S. in 1985 on furlough from Taiwan, Ed was elected president of OMS and held that position until 1991. The following four years they served as OMS mission representatives on the campuses of Asbury College and Asbury Theological Seminary. Currently, in addition to preaching and writing ministries, they have begun an outreach to Chinese restaurant workers in the U.S. through English language instruction.
Both Ed and Rachel are graduates of Asbury College. Ed has a master’s degree from Asbury Theological Seminary and a master’s degree in journalism from the University of California at Los Angeles. In 1987, Asbury College conferred upon him a doctor of laws degree. Ed is the author of more than 20 books, including No Guarantee but God, Under Sentence of Death, Legacies of Faith, and The Story Behind Streams in the Desert.
The Ernys have three married children—Sharon, Scott and Stuart—and eight grandchildren.
