Dean and Gail Davis have given themselves to the work of fulfilling Jesus’ Great Commission as missionaries with OMS International since 1984. Dean’s passion in ministry is to equip church planters to start church planting movements. Gail’s burden is to equip missionaries to thrive in cross-cultural ministry.

Dean and Gail’s first ministry assignment with OMS International was as church planters among the Saraguros of Ecuador’s southern Andes Mountains.

The Davises found that ministry to be extremely challenging and ultimately extremely rewarding as churches were started and the first Saraguro in the history of Christianity was ordained to the Christian ministry. In their work among the Saraguros, Dean and Gail used many methods to present the message of salvation in Jesus Christ. Perhaps the most effective was the spiritual fiesta, a combination of traditional elements of Saraguro culture with a clear, community-oriented presentation of the Gospel. The Davises were instrumental in the establishment of Good Shepherd Radio as well as a Bible Institute ministry for the Saraguros.

After twelve years of ministry to the Saraguros, educational concerns for their children caused the Davises to move to Quito, the capital of Ecuador. Gail served as an educational therapist at Alliance Academy, a missionary kids’ school, while Dean was a member of a church planting team that raised up a cell church in the city.

As they served among Ecuadorians, the Lord developed a greater passion for ministry in both Dean and Gail. Gail’s burden expresses itself in training adults for ministry. Dean’s burden is to help start local churches, which are able to reproduce themselves through evangelism, discipleship and the training of leaders to start new churches.

Gail directs the Member Development ministry of OMS International, which provides pre-field training for missionaries to be deployed across the globe. Dean is the international director of Every Community for Christ, the worldwide evangelistic church planting ministry of OMS International.
