Current Ministries in Mexico

Equipping Nationals

The role of the missionaries in Mexico is to hand the reigns of every ministry over to the nationals. A key part in this strategy is to give them the necessary tools so that they can lead and train their fellow Mexicans as OMS has done for more than 17 years in Mexico. OMS currently works in two cities in two of the 32 Mexican states - Acapulco in Guerrero and Mexico City in the state of Mexico.

Current Ministries

  • The OMS-established national church in Mexico is called the United Families in Christ (UNIFAM) Churches of Mexico. The goal of UNIFAM is to establish churches in Mexico City, a city of 31 million people, as well as the rest of the country.

  • Today, OMS missionaries teach theological education and leadership development to Mexicans in the OMS-founded seminary known as SEMBIMEX. The new facility provides more space to train more national pastors and ECC workers.
  • OMS International and Every Community for Christ (ECC), the major evangelistic and church planting ministry of OMS, are working together to encourage church planting movements. These movements consist of house churches, which are rapidly multiplying throughout the country. These church planting movements will create a system of churches that are less dependent on foreign funds and require less professional training for the bi-vocational pastors. We praise God for what he's done through our ECC teams in 2007:
    • Teams: 6
    • Team members: 30
    • Decisions for Christ: 1,132
    • People in discipleship or lay-leadership training: 45

  • In conjunction with UNIFAM, our national church, the need to reach the more than 800,000 homeless street children has been identified. Ministry has blossomed with the renovation of a new Drop-In-Center. The goal with this ministry is to lead willing kids to the Lord, disciple them and give them skills that will sustain them economically. The missionaries also work with others who may be in need economically or physically.
