Current Ministries in Haiti
Although OMS ministry in Haiti began with Radio 4VEH in the 1950s, other ministries have begun over the years that both reach out to the Haitians and train national Christian leaders.
- Emmaus Biblical Seminary (EBS) is the only Wesleyan seminary in northern Haiti. It made the transition from a vocational school to a seminary several years ago because many Christian vocational schools had begun to pop up, but few high quality theological training institutions existed. About 75 students attend EBS each year, and around 15 graduate with four-year degrees every May. A new building is currently being constructed for the seminary.
- The Emmaus Fellowship of Churches, the OMS-related denomination in Haiti, has approximately 50 churches with 6,250 members. Many of the pastors of these churches have graduated from the seminary. OMS encourages these pastors through prayer, involvement in the churches, retreats and construction.
- Cowman International School, located in northern Haiti, provides a quality, Christian education for elementary-aged missionary children and English-speaking Haitian children. Cowman also provides a unique outreach to Haitian business families by offering an English education with a Christian emphasis.
- Bethesda Medical Center and Dental Clinic is one of the top-rated clinics in northern Haiti. The clinic saw 31,917 patients in 2006 and 89 people prayed to accept Christ.
- Starfish Kids uses education as a means to share the Gospel with children who are “adopted” through this is a student sponsorship program. Starfish Kids strives to support the 40 schools under OMS and the Emmaus Fellowship of Churches.
- Radio 4VEH ministers to people on the airwaves. The station now has three downlink stations with plans to expand the signal. God has been using the station to tear down the bonds of Satan throughout Haiti. One of the downlink sites is at the mission property of David Bustin, grandson of the founder of Radio 4VEH.
- Villa Ormiso Hospitality Center, located in Port-au-Prince, offers hospitality and spiritual renewal for OMS personnel, work groups, guests and other missionaries.
- Along with these established ministries, Every Community for Christ’s (ECC) evangelism and church planting teams are carrying out key objectives in evangelism, church development and leadership training. We praise God for what He's done through our ECC teams in 2006:
- Teams: 4
- Team members: 6
- Decisions for Christ: 174
- People in discipleship or lay-leadership training: 42
- Churches established: 3
