A Testimony of God's Work in Europe
He grew up as an orphan in a part of the world with thousands upon thousands of orphans. No, not Africa…Eastern Europe. Alcoholism, divorce and spiritual bankruptcy have destroyed homes all across the former Soviet Union. But where do the children go? Some stay with mom or grandmother, but many are abandoned to overcrowded, underfunded state-run orphanages. Ivan (name changed for security reasons) was just such an orphan. He knows the loneliness and despair that comes from being institutionalized. To make matters worse, he was unprepared for life on his own when he had to leave the orphanage at age 18. Soon, Ivan found himself on the streets, stealing floor mats from the doorways of public buildings in order to have a place to sleep by the heating grates on the streets. His life was a mess.
But Ivan trusted Jesus as his Savior through the witness of a young Christian in his hometown. Soon, he got a job and became a member of a local church. Now, Ivan reaches out to orphans in understaffed orphanages by offering computer classes and helping in summer camps. He serves his people now as a member of an OMS Every Community for Christ (ECC) team. Ivan’s vision is to reach the 10,000 young adult orphans of his city with the Gospel of Christ.
