East Asia

History of OMS in East Asia

OMS International began its ministry in East Asia in the early 1900s, centering its work in a major city at a time of civil unrest and spiritual hunger. Since that time, Christianity has become a major religion in the region.

Obstacles in this region include government restrictions, language acquisition and rapid change. Nevertheless, rapid change also presents new opportunities for OMS:

  • Placing expatriate personnel in various occupations to serve felt needs of the people.
  • Working in partnership with local leaders in training Christian workers.

Future ministry plans for East Asia include:

  • Developing a multi-purpose ministry center in a major city
  • Expanding leadership training
  • Placing more expatriate personnel in strategic positions

We praise God for what He's done in 2008:

  • Decisions for Christ: 16
  • Baptisms: 50
  • Attending services: 32
  • People in discipleship or lay-leadership training: 36
